Rui Miritta is now the virtual Overall Champion of the Iberian Supercars GTC, after his double victory at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo event, with still one event remaining to conclude this year’s Iberian series.
The Monteiros Competições driver was engaged in an intense battle throughout the entire 2024 season with the Tockwith Motorsports Ginetta G50, driven by Simon Moore and Tomás Pinto Abreu. However, Rui Miritta’s excellent results and consistent performance secured him the title in Valencia.
So far, the Porsche 911 Cup driver has claimed three victories, three fastest laps, and two pole positions in six races, highlighting his high level of competitiveness this season.
Rui Miritta is very pleased with his achievement in the Iberian Supercars, given the competitiveness and quality of the competition. “When I started the season, I had no expectations beyond the joy of competing in a well-organized championship. I faced strong opponents, but I managed to maintain speed and consistency, which were crucial in winning the title. It’s very important for me and Monteiros Competições, as it shows we’ve been doing good work”, said the driver from Valongo.
One event still remains to finish the Iberian Supercars season, scheduled for the end of the month at the Algarve International Circuit, but Rui Miritta already has his sights set on 2025. “I’m really enjoying participating in the Iberian Supercars! I’ve been warmly welcomed by the entire organization, from the sports and media teams to the championship technicians, and my competitors also create a great atmosphere; it’s a pleasure to race against them. For all these reasons, I’d love to take part in next year’s edition of Iberian Supercars. We’ll see if it’s possible”, concluded the Portuguese racer.
Rui Miritta also leads the Cup division of the Iberian Supercars, with a chance to win another title at the Portimão event.
On October 26 and 27, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will host the season finale of the Iberian Supercars and Supercars Jarama RACE, as well as the penultimate round of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade.
