The Correia family is gearing up for an exciting weekend as they prepare to participate in the Circuito de Jerez round of the Iberian Supercars Endurance, fielding two cars – a Mercedes AMG GT4 and a Cupra TCR.
For the third round of the Iberian series, JC Group Racing will be making a formidable entry. Gabriela Correia will be at the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT4, while José Correia and Beatriz Correia will drive the Cupra TCR.
This event is not unfamiliar territory for Gabriela and José Correia. Gabriela previously competed in the 2019 GT4 South European Series in a KTM X-Bow GT4, and she teamed up with her father in the last year’s Autódromo Estoril season finale, taking the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT4, which she will once again pilot in the GT4 Bronze division at the Andalusian circuit.
Beatriz Correia, the younger of the Correia siblings, is set to make her circuit racing debut. Her journey has transitioned from karting to competing in the Portuguese Hill Climb Championship this year. She will join her father, José Correia, in the Cupra TCR, entering in the TCR division.
Gabriela Correia expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming race: “The off-season in the Portuguese Hill Climb Championship is quite lengthy, and this event keeps me active. Circuit racing involves much longer distances than hill climbs, allowing me to hone my skills. I’ve missed the thrill of circuit racing. I expect to face strong competition, but I’m committed to being as competitive as possible.”
For Beatriz Correia, this is a new and exciting challenge leading up to the 2024 season: “This marks my first experience on circuit racing, which is a significant difference from karting and Hill Climb racing. It’s an opportunity for me to improve my skills and become more acquainted with the Cupra TCR, ultimately preparing for the next Portuguese Hill Climb Championship season.”
José Correia, the family patriarch, underscores the significance of their return to circuit racing: “Our absence from circuit racing has been long, but with the conclusion of the Portuguese Hill Climb Championship, we couldn’t pass up this opportunity. We aim for victory every time we hit the track, but we’re aware of the strong competition. Our main goal is to be competitive, and I’ll be helping Beatriz in adapting to this new challenge. Finishing both races will be a vital achievement.”
The Circuito de Jerez round is scheduled for October 20-22 and represents the third round in the Iberian Supercars Endurance championship
