The new season of Iberian Supercars Endurance kicks off this weekend at Portimão with an exciting battle promised in the TCR field.
The Supercars Endurance tradition of mixing GT and Touring cars on the grid continues this season, with four TCR cars participating – two Cupra TCR cars, an Audi RS3 LMS TCR, and a Hyundai Elantra N TCR.
The reigning Supercars Endurance TCR Champion, Daniel Teixeira, will drive one of the Cupra’s cars. He aims to repeat the good results achieved last year, but he will face tough opposition from his great opponents in 2022, António Coimbra and Luís Miguel Silva.
The experienced Sports & You pair will drive again a Hyundai Elantra N TCR, with which they took the honours of the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade – TCR in 2022, winning four races on their way to the title.
Pdauto will enter an Audi RS3 LMS TCR for Paulo Silva and Daniela Marques, two drivers who usually race in the Portuguese Hill Climb Championship but participated in selected 2021 Supercars Endurance races. An Audi won the first race in Portimão last season, ensuring some competitiveness for the two races next weekend.
The second Cupra TCR is entered by Grupo TDS and will be driven by two other Hill Climb racing specialists. Manuel Sousa invites Luís Manuel Silva again to share the wheel of his Cupra TCR, a car already seen competing in Supercars Endurance in 2021.
All these drivers will compete for the ‘Campeonato de Portugal de Turismo’ title, facing competitors in the TC and M2 divisions, with cars such as the BMW M2 Racing Cup, BMW M240i, Skoda Octavia, Ginetta G40, etc.
Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, emphasizes the “importance of TCR for our championships, as this category has been one of the pillars of our competition since day one, providing more diversity to the starting grid and creating a race within a race. The protagonists of the fight for the 2022 title will meet again and will be joined by competitors who will undoubtedly have a say in the outcome of each race. The duels between the TCR drivers will provide even more excitement for all fans, whether they are at the circuit or watching on television”.
The Iberian Supercars Endurance season will begin with the Algarve Welcome Spring event at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve from 5-7 May
