Amazing day in the desert for the Squadra Corse Angelo Caffi

6 januari 2022

Luciano Carcheri climbed two places in Group H3 in a spectacular fifth stage.
Fundamental contribution of Giulia Maroni who dominates the instrumentation
and allows the Ligurian driver to score the best performance so far in this
Dakar Classic with the Nissan Terrano 1.

Brescia, January 6th 2022 – Sparks of excitement at the Dakar Classic 2022 for the
Squadra Corse Angelo Caffi engaged in the Arabian desert with the Nissan Terrano 1
driven by Luciano Carcheri and Giulia Maroni.

The crew finished the fifth stage in seventh place in Group H3 and 47th overall with
remarkable average regularity. Only the organisers’ decision to cancel the last section of
the stage for safety reasons prevented Carcheri and Maroni from finalising a comeback
that could have ended even higher given that the crew had closed the second timed
sector with an excellent partial score of just 42 penalties.

“I have to be honest. We did a super job today, but the main credit goes to Giulia.
During the first few days we always had delays at the regularity sector controls: Giulia
checked all the times manually and realised that, perhaps due to an electronic anomaly
in the cockpit, the on-board instrumentation was calculating the distances with a fair
error. Thanks to her valuable insight, we manually cancelled this handicap by modifying
our approach to the controls and this allowed us to close the best stage so far” Carcheri
said.

“Today we found a perfect symbiosis. Luciano drove perfectly our Nissan Terrano 1
prepared by TecnoSport and we got a great satisfaction. It was a great boost of
confidence and motivation for the rest of the race.
Next stage | January 7th | Riyadh-Riyadh

One more stage before the rest at the end of the first week of competition. 425
kilometres of loop in the west of Riyadh with a first part full of intersecting tracks where
navigation will be crucial. A few dunes and a very fast final part will close the day before
returning to the bivouac. Two regularity sectors, one navigation sector will be the main
course of a competitive lenght of 224 kilometres.
