2025: a transitional year for DG Sport Compétition

17 januari 2025

Life is full of paradoxes. In 2024, DG Sport Compétition became the world team champion in WRC2, thanks to an outstanding season with Yohan Rossel and Nikolay Gryazin. The team also received the ‘Team of the Year Award’ at the RACB Awards in December. However, the structure now finds itself at a crossroads, indicating that 2025 will be a transitional year.

At the 2024 RACB Awards, team managers Alain Georges and Christian Jupsin wore satisfied smiles, though they were not the widest smiles they had ever shown. Despite becoming the world team champion in WRC2 just weeks earlier, the future appeared less certain

“Our performances in 2024 exceeded our expectations, but the season was not without its challenges,” both team managers stated. “It confirms that to compete at such a high level, exceptional effort is required, even as the official representative of a manufacturer. Every member of DG Sport Compétition dedicated themselves fully over many months. While we were brilliantly rewarded at the end of the year, it was sometimes difficult to see the big picture. Yes, we were the best WRC2 team in the world in 2024. And no, we do not have an official program for the 2025 season. C’est la vie…”

However, this does not mean DG Sport Compétition will disappear from the motorsport scene. The 2025 season will be transitional, with a reduced workforce, but the Theux-based structure will continue as the official distributor for Peugeot Sport, Citroën Racing, and Opel Motorsport parts and cars. Citroën C3 Rally2 cars remain available for rent, and discussions are underway with drivers interested in a customized program in the Belgian Rally Championship.

“In the absence of an international program or a full national season, we will take time to think about and consider various options for 2025, keeping future years in mind,” Alain Georges continued. “The evolution of different categories in the international rally scene raises many questions, and one of our priorities will be to position ourselves so that, once everything becomes clear, we are ready to act immediately.”

Thus, while 2025 will be a quieter season for DG Sport Compétition, it does not signify the end of the story. It is also important to note that DG Sport Compétition is completely independent of DG Sport, the company specializing in organizing car and motorcycle events, which already has a full agenda for 2025.
