Top 10 mission for the Squadra Corsa Angelo Caffi

12 januari 2022

Brescia, January 12th 2022 – Two more stages before the finish in Jeddah. The Squadra Corse Angelo Caffi is aiming firmly at the chequered flag in this Dakar Classic 2022, a tough, rough edition for real men which saw Luciano Carcheri and Giulia Maroni absolute protagonists in Group H3 where they battled for the podium until a mechanical problem occurred yesterday.

The great work of the technical team coordinated by TecnoSport allowed the Italian duo to proudly restart the engine of their Nissan Terrano 1 this morning to venture back into the Saudi Arabian desert for the third last leg of the race, 458 kilometres from Wadi Ad Dawasir to Bisha.

After yesterday’s misfortune for a turbine failure, the crew’s determination was not affected. Currently eighth in H3 with a good margin on the rivals and with a difficult gap to close from the crews in front, the driver of Costa Ligure and the Italian Cross-Country Rally Champion 2021 have set their sights on the Group top ten, knowing that with a careful driving strategy the result is within reach.

“We have disputed a very good stage. We have been careful not to take unnecessary and we did well in the first regulatory sector, very well in the navigation section where we closed with another zero, while we suffered a bit more in the closing stages. The Nissan Terrano 1 is going perfectly, so let’s try to enjoy these last few stages before the marathon ends” Carcheri said.

Next stage, January 13th | Bisha-Bisha
Penultimate stage, again a loop around the Bisha bivouac, one of the most beautiful in the entire race. The distance is smaller, with only 298km and two competitive sectors, one of navigation and one of regularity. Soft sandy terrain with several dunes.
