- Class championship secured in their first full season of GT3 racing together
McLaren 720S GT3 racers Stewart and Lewis Proctor have secured the British GT Silver-Am Class Championship in their first season of racing together. The father-and-son duo wrapped up the title at Oulton Park last weekend (September 11-12) with a round to spare.
Stewart Proctor’s McLaren racing journey with began with the purchase of a 650S Sprint road car. Inspired to compete, he entered the FIA-sanctioned Pure McLaren GT Series in a 570S GT4 and was runner-up in 2018, his debut season.
Son, Lewis was selected for the inaugural McLaren Driver Development Programme (DDP) in 2017. He competed in the British GT Championship’s GT4 class in a 570S GT4 for two seasons before graduating to McLaren GT Driver status.
Stewart and Lewis paired up to race a McLaren 720S GT3 during 2020 ahead of their first full season of competition together this year.
“It’s a unique opportunity to be able to race as a family and it’s a lot of fun; we’ve been involved with McLaren for a few years now and we’ve always been made to feel part of the McLaren family. Dad competed in the Pure McLaren GT series and I was a part of the Driver Development Programme for two years, so to be right at the top end of what you can do in British GT with McLaren is really exciting for us. We’re enjoying it a lot.”

“Competing in the Pure McLaren GT Series in a 570S GT4 was a great grounding in racing, that is what got me hooked and helped me refine my skills. The British GT3 Championship is a great opportunity to race together and Lewis is a pretty good coach – while I give him driving lessons on the road all the time, he gives me a hard time on the track!”

“This is a tremendous result for Stewart, Lewis and the Balfe team”, commented Ian Morgan, Director of Motorsport, McLaren Automotive Ltd. “Stewart has demonstrated incredible progress in his first full season of racing in the British GT Championship, remaining competitive in a very experienced GT3 field, and it was great as well to see McLaren GT Driver Lewis continue his development in the McLaren 720S GT3. They are fully deserving the Silver-Am title and we look forward to watching them go from strength to strength over the coming years.”
