Barcelona (Spain), March 25, 2018. Pietro Peccenini won race-1 of the first 2018 VdeV Challenge Monoplace round in Barcelona behind the wheel of TS Corse Formula Renault 2.0. Under pouring rain the 45-year-old Italian driver started 4th from the grid to make a stunning comeback up to leading the 30-minute long race during the very last lap. Winning his first VdeV race ever Peccenini took first position on podium both in the overall and in the Gentlemen Driver Trophy, which is the category he wants to confirm his 2015, 2016 titles in. Some hours later and in even worst wet conditions, Peccenini finished race-2 in fourth place overall and on the Gentlemen Driver Trophy podium again (2nd), another very positive result that allows him to keep the lead in this class standings.
Peccenini said after his incredible weekend in Spain: “Unforgettable! The team did a great job and we are all celebrating my win! I had a perfect car for dry conditions and we did a very good qualifying session, then we had two very difficult races but, avoiding any kind of mistakes, we managed to make the most. My first VdeV victory ever is the best way to start the season. I have to thank all the people who believed that this moment would have come true and helped me to reach it. And now we are looking forward to next race!”.
Second VdeV round is to be held at Magny-Cours on April 20-22.
