Vallelunga (ITA), 2021 oct 31. Another incredible win for former F.1 champion Jacques Villeneuve
that for two times in a row wins the Nascar Wheelen Euro Series in Italy with Academy
Motorsport Alex Caffi Motorsport. Villeneuve started this last race of the championship from the
first row but then lost the lead due to some issues with the engine. He was able to stay tail to tail
with Loris Hezemans but at the same time he was under pressure from Gianmarco Ercoli just
behind him. During lap 9 Villeneuve with a clean brave move was able to overtake Hezemans
and kept the lead until the end of the race. “A double win is great,” states Villeneuve after the
race “you always need a first one and then it opens up the road. The car was great it was flying
as yesterday, the engine just poped down a little at the start I don’t know what happened I lost
the lead so after that it was a question of getting back in the lead because I had to defend myself
a lot. Once I was in front then everything was good.”
A touched Federico Monti, team owner, states after the race:”It is an incredible experience to
have a double win for Villeneuve and for Academy Motosport / Alex Caffi Motosport here in
Vallelunga. Academy has just started this championship but I think the entire team is working
well and for sure there is still more potential”
Euronascar 2 final did not spare moments of great excitement between the 20 cars on track
ready to do anything to win the championship. Perfect start for Academy Motosport / Alex Caffi
Motosport from the third row with the Vladimiros Tziortzis at the wheel of the Ford Mustang #1
who was trapped at the third corner by the group of cars still door to door, he could do anything
to avoid a contact with the car in front of him that ended his run for a win.
The young Thomas Krasonis, who celebrated his 20th birthday here in Vallelunga together with
Academy Motosport /Alex Caffi Motosport team, just barely missed the Top-10.
Starting from the eighth row the Greek driver and his FJ #2 managed with great concentration
and skill a difficult race full of pitfalls and twists, declaring at the end of the race: “I’m exhausted,
it was really a complicated race with all those contacts, but I’m very happy with how it ended, I
tried to push hard without risking too much, I didn’t want to compromise the race. It has been an
eventful season, with a lot of satisfactions but also some not-so-satisfying moments, but thanks
to Academy Motosport / Alex Caffi Motosport team we have always been able to create a good
feeling of cooperation mutual respect that surely made everything easier. It is fantastic to have
the spectators back that really give you some extra support”
