Francisco Carvalho and Jorge Rodrigues together in a Porsche Cayman GT4

18 mei 2021

Francisco Carvalho and Jorge Rodrigues bet on a Porsche Cayman GT4 for the title attack in the renamed Supercars- GT4 South. As in 2019, the driver from Guarda will line up behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman GT4 very similar to the one with which he led the race in Estoril. What change for 2021 is the team mate and the team that prepares the German car.

The team mate of the experience Portuguese will be Jorge Rodrigues, the driver from Braga, Race winner in Trofeo Abarth Europa, is back to the tracks. The two fast Portuguese drivers will be assisted by the Lema Racing team. A Slovenian team with a vast curriculum, such as the participation in ETCC and Clio Cup Spain. In 2021 they accepted the Portuguese duo challenge and will attack the Supercars- GT4 title.

For Francisco Carvalho, 2021 will be a challenging year. “The Porsche Cayman that we will race is a previous generation car and, as such, it will be more difficult to get to the front in circuits with long straights, like the Portimão and Estoril Circuits. However, I believe that in the Spanish circuits we will be in the fight for the front positions“.

Jorge Rodrigues is excited about his return to GT4, “it is with great satisfaction that I announce my return to the tracks, more so my return to GT4. As you know, I raced in Italy driving a Maserati GT4, a car that gave me many joys and I miss it very much. I have always been a great fan of the GT4 category and when the opportunity to return behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman GT4 came up I didn’t let it escape. I am excited about my return but I confess that I will only be able to share my real goals after testing the car. It is always a pleasure to team up with such a highly regarded driver as Francisco and I think we will get along wonderfully as we share the same goal, finish far ahead as possible. ”

Jaka Marinšek, team manager says, ” we at Lema Racing are really happy to be apart of a championship that gathers such great cars and tracks, our line up is a really experienced and fast one. Francisco won the Iberian GT championship on the GT4 class in 2011 and 2012, and so it was an easy yes for us taking him onboard. On the other hand, Jorge raced in Italy on a GT4 and we crossed paths a few times. We are confident that we will be fighting for the front positions regularly, the Porsche Cayman GT4 is a really well balanced and quick car. To be honest we can’t wait for the green light.

The duo of Portuguese drivers, who will compete for the AM category title, has its debut already scheduled for June 5 and 6 at the Jarama circuit in Madrid. With this confirmation, Lema Racing’s Porsche Cayman GT4 is the sixth GT4 homologation vehicle to be part of the grid of this new Iberian competition
