Andalusia based Plemar Sport will enter its Ginetta G50 GT4 for Juan Reina, who became a podium finisher on his debut at Jarama, and series newcomer Alberto Valverde at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (Portugal).
After the events held in France (Nogaro) and Spain (Jarama and Barcelona), the Race Ready-organized series with the support of SRO Motorsport Group will head south to Portimão as the Portuguese village will host the fourth event of the 2019 season on October 25-27. The GT4-based series enters its hot phase as it arrives in Portugal for another action-packed race weekend, which will be held within the frame of the European Le Mans Series at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
Plemar Sport has announced its comeback to the GT4 South European Series in Portugal after making a promising start to its international career at Jarama last June. Juan Reina and Lorenzo López Fernández secured two GTC class podium finishes in their Plemar Sport-run Ginetta G50 GT4 with both Spaniards taking the checkered flag in second and third place.
Reina will race alongside a new teammate Alberto Valverde in Portimão, the latter also making his international racing debut when he races in the Betano Portugal-sponsored series next month. Valverde, who is a Córdoba native, has long experience in domestic touring car championships and claimed the drivers’ title in the Andalusian series in 2018.
The GTC class is devoted to GT4 cars no longer homologated such as Ginetta G50 GT4, Aston Martin Vantage GT4, BMW M3 GT4, among others, which can take part in the GT4 South European Series at a cost-effective price.
Juan Reina underlines that “we are looking forward to returning to the GT4 South European Series. We enjoyed a hugely positive debut stepping onto the class podium twice. It was a nice achievement considering it was our first outing at Jarama as well. We have previous experience of Portimão and Alberto (Valverde) is extremely fast as his title in the Andalusian championship proves.” The Spanish driver adds that “we carried out a private test in Almeria a few days ago, so we feel confident for a new challenge at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.”
Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, explains that “Plemar Sport making its comeback shows the strength of our championship. From the very beginning when Juan entered our event at Jarama, he proved to be a committed racer to our series. After missing the previous round in Barcelona due to professional engagements, Juan is looking forward to making his comeback in Algarve, which it is a big pleasure for me because it makes our entry list stronger. We continue working to further strengthen our entry list and there will be more developments in the coming days.”
The series promoted by Race Ready in partnership with SRO Motorsports Group kicked off at Nogaro, in the Coupe de Pâques, followed by both Spanish rounds taking place at Jarama and Barcelona circuits. The next round will be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, on October 25-27, with the championship coming to an end later in the year with its season finale at Circuito do Estoril.
With the Betano Portugal support, all GT4 South European Series races will be broadcasted on TV – live in Portugal, Porto Canal, and delayed in Spain, Teledeporte – and will be streamed live on the series’ social media.
