Treviso (Italy), July 29, 2019. Villorba Corse celebrates their achievements at the end of the 24 Hours of Spa. After their third consecutive Le Mans last month, the Italian team took also the checkered flag of the Belgian classic, pinnacle of the Blancpain GT Series, with the #133 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Roberto Pampanini, Mauro Calamia, Stefano Monaco and Ivan Jacoma. The team led by Raimondo Amadio and the Italian and Swiss crew, formed by drivers at their first experience in such a competitive endurance event and perfectly coordinated by the team, took advantage of a solid strategy and, avoiding mistakes, managed to catch up 18 positions to finish sixth in the Pro-Am class, forty-third overall. It is yet another authentic feat for Villorba Corse, that celebrates this result as a full success, which came after their commitments in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and five years after their first 24 Hours of Spa, when the Italian team also clinched the 2014 Blancpain GT Endurance Series Pro-Am title. In this second experience, at Spa Villorba Corse had to manage several weather changes, safety cars and pit-stops to comeback from the back of the field to a sixth place in class that crowned the team’s global performance.
Team principal Amadio says: “This was a very successful experience for Villorba Corse. We gave evidence of great team work, strategy and coordination skills during this fifth 24 hours (2 Spa and 3 Le Mans) out of five that we ended at the finish line. It was great to come back to this Blancpain GT Series classic, a race that impressed me with such a high level of drivers and car manufactures. Our watchword was consistency and we fully respected it thanks to a solid strategy that allowed a line-up of drivers at their first experience in such an event to take the checkered flag and that perfectly managed even the most complicated phases. The night was affected by extreme weather conditions but the team has always reacted the right way. We have completed it without damages, problems or an unforeseen event: very challeging 24 hours always very well managed also counting on the reliability of our Mercedes-AMG”.
