Cristóvão and Abreu join Veloso Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMG GT4 line-up

Miguel Cristóvão and Francisco Abreu will join forces this GT4 South European Series season aboard Veloso Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMG GT4.

The Póvoa de Lanhoso-based team has been very supportive of the series since its official announcement, and has now secured its participation with a brand new Mercedes-AMG GT4 car that will be driven by two well-known Portuguese drivers.

Miguel Cristóvão has been one of the 2018 GT4 European Series’ season protagonists, having sign good performances over the year with RN Vision STS BMW M4 GT4 that he divided with Pavel Lefterov, including a race win at Misano

Francisco Abreu is a talent of the last generation of Portuguese racing drivers, having conquered Campeonato Nacional de Velocidade title in 2016 and some silverware in Portuguese TCR series. In 2018 Abreu took part of TCR Europe Series, but this year he moves up to GT racing.

Veloso Motorsport is a top team in Portugal with multiple racing titles to its name and overseas participations in the recent past like the FIA GT Series or the International GT Open. For the inaugural GT4 South European Series, the Portuguese team will run a brand new Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Luís Veloso, Team Manager of Veloso Motorsport, commented: “I consider that GT4 cars are the future. Those cars have good performances and look impressive and allow us to compete with affordable budgets. I believe the GT4 South European Series have all the conditions to be a great championship as it has good events in great circuits, a professional management, and a good media package with TV coverage. I do think we have all the ingredients to be competitive during the season, with a good car and a strong drivers line-up. We can’t wait for the season start at Nogaro.”

Diogo Ferrão, the head of the GT4 South European Series organization, added: “it is an honor to count on Veloso Motorsport in our series. That’s a team with a long-standing tradition in Portuguese motorsport scene that took part in international competitions before. In addition, they will run a fantastic car for two drivers that will be podium contenders: Miguel Cristóvão, who successfully took part last year’s GT4 European Series, and Francisco Abreu, a youngster who has been Portuguese circuit racing champion.”

The series promoted by Race Ready in partnership with SRO Motorsports Group will kick off at Nogaro, in the Coupe de Pâques, at April 19th-22nd, and will visit four other circuits – at Circuito del Jarama, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and Circuito do Estoril. In addition, a “Special Cup” will be held at the Vila Real street circuit.

All GT4 South European Series races will be broadcasted on TV in Portugal and Spain and will be streamed live on Youtube for the rest of the world
