Modena (I), 28 April 2016 – The Squadre Clienti Maserati had a fantastic showing at Monza on 23-24 April. The GranTurismo MC GT4s picked up two wins in the 2016 Competition102 GT4 European Series. In Round 1, the scuderia Villorba Corse secured its debut win courtesy of the Anselmi/Sernagiotto crew before 2015 Maserati Trofeo World Series champion Romain Monti, from France, took race 2. In taking the title Monti also earned the chance to compete in a European championship race with Maserati staff providing back up.
The next event on the European calendar will be Pau, France, on 14-15 May. The stage will see Villorba Corse and Swiss Team cars competing, along with the drivers who have opted to link up with Maserati.
Before Pau, another Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 will be on track this weekend at Rockingham, England, in the British GT Championship. The number 60 car will be driven for Ebor GT Motorsport by Marcus Hoggarth and Abbie Eaton. In Round 1, at Brands Hatch, the British duo came home eighth in the GT4 category. The drivers and car showed their potential but a pit stop glitch and early finish (a red flag was brought out) influenced the outcome.
The Maserati GranTurismo MCs will also be in action in the United States where they will race in the GTS category in the Pirelli World Challenge. Round 3 was run last weekend at the Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama. Three cars from three different teams turned out with the best result going to the No.62 driven by Klenin Performance Racing’s Mark Klenin: he took seventh spot in Race 2. The other competitors were JCR Motorsports’ Jeff Courtney and Racing for Children’s Clint Guthrie. In previous rounds, at St Petersburg and Circuit of America, the RT Motorsports LLC car driven by Ron Ballard and Charles Espenlaub, driving for RT Motorsports LLC, appeared.
The upcoming race in the North American series will be on 19-22 May at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.
