Iberian Supercars continues to draw significant interest from drivers and teams. Chefo Sport has entered a second Ligier JS2R for this month’s Valencia round, to be shared by two young drivers making their debut in GT racing this year.
The Spanish team made its debut this year in the series, competing in the GTX division with a Ligier JS2R entered for Álvaro Vela and Sebastién Villadary. This pair has shown a high level of competitiveness, which has allowed them to secure fourth place in the GTX division drivers’ standings, following two podiums, two pole positions, and one fastest lap.
The strong performances of the Ligier have not gone unnoticed, and Chefo Sport will increase its presence in the championship by entering another French car for two young drivers – Mikkel Kristensen and Pere Marqués – whose goal is to gain experience in the world of GT racing.
“We are very happy to expand our participation in the Iberian Supercars, and there is no better way to do it than by giving our junior drivers the second Ligier,” said the team principal of the Spanish outfit, adding: “Mikkel is very young, the youngest in the team. With only karting experience, he is showing his maturity and skill behind the wheel of our Ligier JS2R. Mikkel has clear goals in motorsport and is working hard with the team to improve and progress, and little by little, the results are coming.”
Sharing Chefo Sport’s second French car with Mikkel Kristensen will be Pere Marqués, another promising talent looking to familiarise himself with the demands of GT racing. “He is another of the team’s young drivers, who has already had some time with the Ligier. He has shown great progress behind the wheel of various team cars. With little prior experience, Pere has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt,” highlighted Nico Abella.
Chefo Sport’s leading figure points to the qualities of the Iberian competition as key factors in attracting ‘young wolves’: “These two drivers chose the Iberian Supercars because it is the most balanced and high-level championship we have in Spain and the Iberian Peninsula. It’s a big challenge for them and for the team.”
The Spanish team, which will field two Ligier JS2Rs in the Valencia round, is excited about racing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, which will take place at the end of this month. “At Chefo Sport, we are very enthusiastic. Having a second car in this championship is just the beginning. The team’s work and the success of the championship are paying off, and drivers want to compete in the Iberian Supercars with our Ligier JS2Rs. We believe it will be a great weekend to test the car’s level. Our drivers will give it their all,” Nico Abella concluded.
The third round of the Iberian Supercars and Supercars Jarama RACE takes place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia on the 28th and 29th of September, marking the end of the summer break
