Sebring (USA), March 15, 2022. Alessio Rovera is about to start his second season in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the 1000 Miles of Sebring. The 26-year-old Italian driver from Varese, who became official Ferrari driver last November, will partecipate in the first 2022 round on Friday March 18 with François Perrodo and Nicklas Nielsen on the #83 AF Corse LMP2 Oreca 07. Last year Rovera and his teammates won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and took the title in the GTE Am class on the Ferrari 488 GTE. For the 2022 season the team has remained the same, but, following their jump in the LMP2 Pro Am category, Rovera is starting his first race ever behind the wheel of a Prototype.
Rovera says: “We are back in the FIA World Endurance Championship for another great challenge. It will not be easy as for the team the car is new and everything in general will be new compared to 2021. However, we are a very close team, we know how to get results and we are going to improve our performances throughout the season. I’m excited about Sebring 1000 Miles because after Daytona and Kyalami in GT it’s time to start our ‘real’ racing program of the season. This time I will not be driving a Ferrari, but being part of the Ferrari family is a further motivation to give my best on and off the track”.
Last weekend Rovera took part in the FIA WEC Prologue. He has tested with the team for two days on the 6019 meters of Sebring: “This is an old-style track, very nice to drive. During the Prologue we took a step forward compared to our private tests, above all thanks to some changes made to the front of our Prototype. The whole team is keeping up the good work we started in Barcelona during the winter”.
The 1000 Miles of Sebring gets underway on Friday, March 18 at 12:00h (local time). Rovera/Perrodo/Nielsen have entered in the LMP2 Pro Am class and will partecipate in all six rounds of the world championship calendar as well as in the entire 2022 European Le Mans Series.
