The Russian Alexey Lukyanuk was able to secure his leadership and win the second European Rally Champion title in his career at the end of the 2020 season, completing the rally in the Canary Islands in the 7th position overall. It was enough to defeat the junior Oliver Solberg in the fight for the honour to be the absolute fastest driver in Europe!
Alexey Lukyanuk, driver, «I haven’t yet fully understood that I’ve become a champion… You know, you should always expect the unexpected, so we’d better wait for the official results. To be honest, I was anxiously waiting for thismoment – to end this fight in any way – to win or to lose, it doesn’t matter, because there’s so much pressure behind, and it’s growing through the season. So now I just need to breath in, relax and feel the things around me.
It was a very tough rally. To be honest, I’m disappointed by my performance today. Actually, it could be much better. We tried to control the gap between us and Solberg. I hope there will be not too much drivers, who will get in between us, just to be sure… And, yes, it’s better to have Canaries as the first rally of the year.
I’ve spent the whole season, except this rally, with Dmitry Eremeev, I’d like to thank him for everything. But I think, return of Alexey Arnautov it the most exciting thing that has happened to me this year, to be honest, because… yeah! I love this guy! He is a friend of mine and I’m really happy to be together. It doesn’t matter that he makes a lot of mistakes, I’m ready to forgive him for everything».
Alexey Lukyanuk, driver, “He’s great! I don’t know, what to wait in 2021, but I hope, we’ll delight you with our performances again.
I’d like to thank everyone who supported our performances, who helped us anyway and anytime! Thank you for your emotions that gave us competitive spirit! Thanks to Citroen Racing, Total Racing , Pirelli and Sainteloc Racing, as well as to all our partners for their financial investments at this difficult time! Thank you all for sharing this victory with me!»
