Team Virage will be present at GT4 South European Series race weekend in Portimão, as the neighbouring Autodromo Internacional do Algarve set to play host to four closely-fought days of GT4 action in the frame of the European Le Mans Series.
The Spain-based team will rely on its proven machinery, the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 which will be driven by C. O. Jones and Freddie Hunt in the Am Cup. Hunt – son of James Hunt, who took the Formula 1 title in 1976– will make his first appearance in the GT4 South European Series on Portuguese soil. Hunt, aged 32, has vast experience in motorsports including international series such as the GT4 European Series Northern Cup, the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the V de V Endurance Series or the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. His teammate C. O. Jones made his debut in the championship at Jarama with the Briton teaming up with Portuguese driver Peter Peters, with whom he achieved two podium finishes in the Am class.
Hunt explains that “I am very much looking forward to racing at the Portimão circuit this weekend. I have never raced there before but when we tested there the car felt good and I really enjoyed the track. It will be my first race in this championship so I don’t really know what to expect in terms of competition. I’m just going to drive as fast and cleanly as I can.”
Diogo Ferrao, CEO of Race Ready, underlines that “I’m delighted with Team Virage’s commitment to our series. The team led by Philippe Gautheron and Julien Gerbi will enter one of its Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 cars for another extremely competitive driver line-up consisting of C. O. Jones and Freddie Hunt, the latter continuing his father’s legacy in motorsports. I’m looking forward to seeing another strong performance of Team Virage at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in which will be another action-packed weekend.”
The series promoted by Race Ready in partnership with SRO Motorsports Group kicked off at Nogaro, in the Coupe de Pâques, followed by the Spanish rounds at Jarama and Barcelona circuits. The next round will be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, on October 25-27, with the championship coming to an end later in the year with its season finale at Circuito do Estoril.
With the Betano Portugal support, all GT4 South European Series races will be broadcasted on TV – live in Portugal, Porto Canal, and delayed in Spain, Teledeporte – and will be streamed live on the series’ social media.
