Two weeks away from the round held at Circuit Barcelona – Barcelona GT4 South European Series, the championship continues to attract new entries as Carlos Barbot and Carlos Moreira da Silva will make their first appearance sharing the driving duties in a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
The series organized by Race Ready with the SRO Motorsport Group’s support will resume with the third round of the season, which takes places on the top-tier FIA Grade 1 circuit in Barcelona.
After two events, international interest in the GT4 South European Series remains high as Carlos Barbot and Carlos Moreira da Silva will join the field for the final rendezvous of the “Spanish Tour”.
The classic car racing has been the main focus of the driver from Vila Nova de Gaia, having started his career in 1995, when he was already into his forties, and during the years he drove impressive racing machines – Lola T70, Lola T290, Lola T280, Porsche 935 or Porsche 911 RSR, among others. Carlos Barbot achieved two domestic titles in classic cars racing and took part at the Daytona 24 Hours 2004 at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Carlos Moreira da Silva doesn’t have such a long racing career so far. He contested the Vodafone Cup by SEAT in the first decade of this century. The GT4 South European Series will mark his comeback to racing.
The pair, which will fight for honors in the Am Cup class, will share a Veloso Motorsport-entered Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Veloso Motorsport is the team currently fielding the Miguel Cristóvão / Francisco Abreu’s Mercedes-AMG GT4, who moved up to first in the Drivers’ standings after Round 2.
Carlos Barbot says: “This is an opportunity to try new racing horizons! I’ve been closely following the GT4 South European Series, which have been constantly growing, with a stronger field. It also enjoys a high media projection with high-level TV broadcastings. It is a good series for Gentleman Drivers, which is our case, and that’s important because offer us the possibility to fight for strong results”.
For Carlos Moreira da Silva this is an opportunity to compete in a high-profile racing series with a friend. “We are two friends with a passion for racing and we look at this opportunity in the GT4 South European Series as way to have a nice weekend. However, we want to give our best and show what we can do in a racing series which is the benchmark in the Iberian Peninsula. We are confident that we will have at our disposal the condition to have a positive weekend at Barcelona”.
Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, feels enthusiastic with another Portuguese team in the GT4 South European Series: “We knew that, to have a strong field, we couldn’t rely only on the Portuguese drivers, but our goal was to have a bigger number of drivers from Portugal. Carlos Barbot knows extremely well our organization as he takes part in the Iberian Historic Endurance, and his participation in the GT4 South European Series shows the confidence placed in us. Carlos Moreira da Silva is new to our organization and we hope he may continue in our events in the future. This entry underlines the interest in our racing series and we will keep working to make GT4 South European Series even stronger”.
The series promoted by Race Ready in partnership with SRO Motorsports Group kicked off at Nogaro, in the Coupe de Pâques, followed by a round held at Jarama. The next round will be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on August 30th-31st, with the championship set to conclude later in the year with two double-headers in Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and Circuito do Estoril.
All GT4 South European Series races will be broadcasted on TV – live in Portugal, Porto Canal, and delayed in Spain, Teledeporte – and will be streamed live on the series’ social media.
