BEN DAVIS TO JOIN TEAM PYRO LINE-UP FOR SILVERSTONE’S ‘CRUNCH’ RENAULT UK CLIO CUP ROUNDS

5 augustus 2016

As in 2015 Ben Davis (Ledbury) will make a one-off appearance in this year’s penultimate rounds of Renault UK Clio Cup at Silverstone in September.

The 23-year-old will join the reigning champion team, Team Pyro, in a fifth car sponsored by R-Tech Welding Equipment.

Davis is a former top name in the high-speed world of 250cc gearbox karting. This will be only his fourth car racing event, however, after two previous appearances in the club-level BARC Clio Series and his UK Clio Cup debut last year at Silverstone with the ace Italian squad Rangoni Corse.

That outing saw him impress mightily with two top ten results (a sixth and a seventh) and he is hoping for more this time around.

Davis commented: “I’m under no illusions that repeating my results of last year will be tough – the UK Clio Cup grid has got a whole lot more competitive in 2016 but it’s a challenge I relish. This is the place for drivers to prove themselves and I certainly know I’m with a fantastic team in Pyro.

“Thanks also to my sponsors for believing in me and seeing the value that the Renault UK Clio Cup offers. I have a lot of guests coming to Silverstone so I am sure it’ll be a great weekend!”

Pyro Team Principal Mark Hunt said: “Ben is a great addition to our team for Silverstone – everyone saw what he was capable of on his debut last year and I am sure he will quickly be on the pace. He’s very professional in his approach and is certainly someone we’d want in our line-up for 2017.”

And added Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Manager Will Fewkes: “We’re very pleased to be welcoming Ben back for the Silverstone meeting which is where things really start to intensify in terms of the title race – in 2016 one of the most competitive in UK Clio Cup history. Ben I’m sure will be towards the front and an asset to the Pyro team which is fighting for the drivers’ and teams’ crowns.”

The Renault UK Clio Cup’s two Silverstone rounds will take place on Sat 17-Sun 18 September – as ever alongside the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship meaning a huge trackside crowd as well as live coverage on ITV4. Before that come rounds 13 and 14 of the 18-round calendar – at the nearby Rockingham circuit, also in Northants (Sat 27-Sun 28 Aug
